If your benefits materials still say “2025 limits,” this is the week to fix that. The inflation-adjusted numbers for health savings accounts and health flexible spending accounts are live for calendar-year 2026.
HSA contribution and HDHP thresholds
For 2026, combined employer + employee HSA contributions can go up to $4,400 for self-only coverage and $8,750 for family coverage. The age-55 catch-up stays at $1,000.
To stay HSA-eligible, the HDHP must meet the new floors and ceilings:
- Minimum deductible: $1,700 self-only / $3,400 family
- Maximum out-of-pocket: $8,500 self-only / $17,000 family
Those aren’t huge jumps from 2025, but they matter when you rebuild SPDs, comparison charts, and payroll contribution caps.
Health FSA
Employee salary-reduction contributions to a health FSA top out at $3,400 for 2026 plan years. If your plan allows carryover (instead of a grace period), the maximum carryover is $680.
What to do this week
- Confirm payroll and TPA systems are capped at the 2026 amounts.
- Spot-check employee-facing PDFs and portal copy for stale numbers.
- If you offer both an HDHP/HSA and a general-purpose health FSA, make sure eligibility rules still prevent disqualifying coverage.
Small limit changes are easy to miss in January — and expensive to explain in April when someone hits the wrong ceiling.
